Happy Friday everyone:

We’re ending our week of examining the rise and terrorist influence of the KKK following the American Civil War by looking at an interactive map of all hate groups in the United States. The map, created and organized by the Southern Poverty Law Center, monitors and tracks all hate group activity in the United States, including the Ku Klux Klan. You’ll notice quickly the Ku Klux Klan no longer has the influence or power of numbers that it once had in America.

Southern Poverty Law Center’s Hate Map

Take a moment, click on the link above, and look across the United States at the different types of hate groups that exist now and where they are primary located. For example, here are the currently active Ku Klux Klan groups in the country:

There are options to search and filter on the left side of the map. Try looking for:

  1. Hate groups located in California
  2. Hate groups located in Bakersfield (hint: there’s one)
  3. The most widespread type of hate group (which group type shows up the most in America)

Comment below if you find a hate group with an especially ridiculous name. I rolled my eyes at a lot of them.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone and stay safe.
